Managers have a very important role to play, not only in managing people and day-to-day operations to drive results, but also in implementing HR and other organizational policies. Not many may have had any formal or structured orientation to managing people, but it is true that they can make a significant difference in enabling HR policies and practices and 'bringing them to life'.  Being responsible to achieve results, strategize for growth and bring about change, it is imperative that they understand HR related activities and skills associated and implement them in an informed manner.

 

This program will help in learning and improving the essential skills that an effective manager must master in the arena of Human Resources. The program focuses on various dimensions of Human Resource which have immense utility in both short and long term. Some of them include:

  • appreciating the importance of the" psychological contract”, team relationships and trust.
  • building a team and directing and guiding the workflow playing to the strengths of the team members
  • identifying learning needs and embedding learning in the workflow.
  • assessing employee performance.
  • managing team grievances and understanding when to escalate matters to HR.

 

Objectives

The program is aimed at:

  • building a deeper understanding of HR functions and preparing the participants to carry out with ease some of the basic HRM functions within their team / subunit / unit.
  • enabling the participant to understand strategies to attract and retain team talent.

  • equipping the participant to analyze HR issues and develop action plans one can implement within the team / organization.
  • enabling the participant to see how HR and non-HR functions in every organization can create an effective, complementary work environment.

Program Directors

Dr. Meghna Goel is an Assistant Professor of Human Resources & Organizational Behavior at KJ Somaiya Institute of Management in Mumbai, India. She has a Ph.D. in Management from Jamia Millia Islamia (Central University), New Delhi, India with a specialization in Human Resource Management. Her research interests are in people management, governance, MSME, and operational excellence. Prior to academics she has worked in the corporate sector, serving as a HR Generalist and Learning & Development Specialist for Life Scan Inc. (a Johnson & Johnson Co), Cadbury India Ltd. and Bajaj Allianz Life. She has vast experience of corporate training in the area of competency development & soft skills and change management. In her consulting role she has worked with family businesses in their transformation journey. Dr. Meghna has authored several papers in peer-reviewed journals, business cases, books and book chapters. She has keen interest in the design and delivery of managerial competency development programs and organization development initiatives.

 

Dr. Seetha Pachchhapur is an Assistant Professor of Human Resources & Organizational Behavior at KJ Somaiya Institute of Management in Mumbai, India. She has a Ph.D. in HRM from Tata Institute of Social Sciences with a specialization in Talent Management. She has over ten years of industry experience in HR and around five years of academic experience teaching various HR subjects. She has been involved as a team member in consultancy assignments such as designing a learning and governance framework for SAP, developing a competency-based recruitment and selection process for Federal Bank, Kochi, conducting a Competency assessment of managers at Goa Shipyard Ltd and Corporate CSR evaluation exercise for Ministry of Corporate Affairs, GOI. She has conducted sessions in the areas of Communication Skills, Customer Relationship Management, Presentation skills and Reading and Comprehension skills for the CA IPCC and GMCS batches at SIES College of Management Studies. Her research interests include Talent Management and other HR Processes and Practices in action in organizations and outcomes.
