Overview

Demographic and health data are required for planning, programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation of ongoing programmes. The data on components of population change, fertility and mortality are important inputs for population estimates and projections. A host of other data pertaining to maternal and reproductive health, immunization, family planning and access to health facilities & infrastructure are required for formulation of new programmes and for monitoring and scientific evaluation of a number of ongoing programs and to assess the progress in Sustainable Development Goals.

 

Objectives

This program is intended to strengthen scholars, researchers, and faculties in analytical skills by providing a blend of conceptual learning and hands-on practical sessions on understanding, accessing and analysing large scale healthcare survey datasets.

 

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to understand the importance of use of demographic and health data and these analytical skills will help the researchers to extract, analyse, interpret and present healthcare data.

Delivering the content would involve a well-balanced combination of lectures, class discussions and practical hands-on sessions.

Program Directors

Dr. Sanjiwani J Kumar

Dr. Sanjiwani J Kumar is presently working as Associate Professor and Area chairperson of the Department of Business Analytics at KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.

Her total 22 years of work experience is an amalgamation of Industry and Academia.

She obtained PhD in management from SNDT University. She is also a Postgraduate diploma holder in Integrated program in Business Analytics from IIM Indore.

With her keen interest in Research, she facilitates subjects like Advanced and Basic Business Research, Data Analytics, Business Statistics, Interactive Dashboards Using Tableau, Power BI , Quantitative techniques and Big data analytics. She also delivers a Research methodology course of Mumbai University, SNDT University and Somaiya University for PhD scholars.

Dr. Sanjiwani has published and presented national and international research papers in the research forums, to name a few, International Journal of Applied Finance and Banking, Journal of Medical Marketing and Review of Integrative business and research and Model Assisted Statistics and Applications (MASA)

Dr Sanjiwani has conducted several Business research modules for INS Hamala, MDP for Mahindra & Mahindra , Godrej & Boyce for Mid-level and Senior level professionals. 

 

 

 

Dr. Barsharani Maharana

Dr. Barsharani Maharana is presently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Analytics at K J Somaiya Institute of Management, Somaiya Vidyavihar University. She holds Ph.D. degree in Population Studies from International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai along with a Master degree in Statistics and Population Studies. Dr. Barsharani has competency to handle statistical and demographic software packages, and strong ability to implement numerous surveys. She has handled large scale survey data like National Sample Survey, National Family Health Survey, District Level Household Survey and India Human Development Survey and published research articles in areas of health economics, ageing, mortality, reproductive health, maternal and child health in peer reviewed journals. She has conducted the FDP on Accessing, Visualising and Analysing Healthcare Databases. Dr. Barsharani has more than five years of teaching experience to post graduate students and research experience as a team leader in National level research projects under the aegis of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Govt of India, UNFPA, USAID and National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Addiction, Washington DC.
