K J Somaiya Institute of Management is a constituent unit of the Somaiya Vidyavihar University. The institute works under the overall guidance of its various governing bodies such as the governing council, board of management, academic boards and board of studies of every area of specialization. The inputs received from these decision making bodies of the university and the institute helps in taking decisions of strategic importance, including the long term future directions, national & international collaborations and inputs for various plans & budgets.

For academic guidance, the Institute looks up to the Academic Advisory Board as per the guidelines of the Somaiya Vidyavihar University. This committee reviews the conduct of all the programmes at K J Somaiya Institute of Management.

Programme Coordinators and the Area Chairpersons of departments look at administrative and academic matters relating to their programmes and areas and function under the overall guidance of the Director.

The Institute has an array of academic, accreditation, co-curricular, extra-curricular and cultural committees headed by Faculty & Staff members working in multi disciplinary teams. Every faculty member is involved in the institutional governance process apart from their teaching and research activities. The student body is represented through an elected student council. There are various students’ committees that are mentored by Faculty & Staff members. These student committees and clubs are categorized into core committees, subject/area specific committees, professional growth committees and cultural development committees.
