Case Study Analysis Workshop | KJSIM

The Case Study Committee of K J Somaiya Institute of Management organised ‘Just in Case - A Case Study Analysis Workshop’ to provide an immersive learning experience focused on sharpening structured thinking and real-world decision-making. Rather than treating cases as academic exercises, the session encouraged the 30 participating students to step into the shoes of decision-makers and navigate ambiguity with clarity and logic.

Key Highlights:

• Conducted by Dr Brajesh Bolia, Associate Professor and Program Director of the MBA (Executive) programme, who guided participants on the mindset required to analyse business problems beyond surface-level answers.

• Emphasised problem diagnosis through a systematic approach to reading cases, which included scanning the context, visualising the situation and identifying the core decision question.

• Utilised the 5 Whys approach to help participants effectively differentiate between symptoms and root causes.

• Included an in-depth application of these frameworks using the InsideIIM case, which presented a strategic dilemma regarding brand extension and expansion in the EdTech space.

• Facilitated an active space for discussion, debate and critical evaluation, reinforcing the importance of building coherent arguments and weighing trade-offs in the absence of a single ‘right’ answer.

The workshop proved to be a valuable addition to the students' academic journey, demonstrating how disciplined thinking leads to stronger managerial decisions and preparing them for future competitions and professional roles.
